How does the connection between our our bodies and reminiscences change as we age? Artist Casey Curran (beforehand) attends to this query in a brand new collection of kinetic sculptures. Titled Carrion Blooms, the works reference degeneration and decay and the way the physique’s stamina wanes. “We are able to all recall these days when our power appeared limitless, twenty-four-hour benders the place we one way or the other managed to cram every little thing in; work, college, hobbies, associates, and household. The time felt limitless with potentialities,” Curran says.
Hand-cranks animate laser-cut bugs and flowers made from mylar, which flutter, blossom, and retreat to their static positions. Emphasizing inevitable transformation and the fleeting nature of life, the artist likens the gilded skeletal constructions to scaffolding, a prized basis “to put the long run on…Carrion Blooms is about how we alter over time, how we use our days otherwise with age, and what it means to let go of the previous,” he says. “What might be left once we are gone, and who will bear in mind the association we made?”
Carrion Blooms is on view from April 1 to Might 6 at Heron Arts in San Francisco, and you will discover extra from Curran on his site and Instagram.
